Songs of the Week #3

By Samir Ibrahim

Even though it’s break, the music never stops. So do we here at Amplify. Here are some songs to accompany you during these relaxing two weeks. Oh, and there’s a Spotify playlist on the bottom so you never miss the „Songs of the Week“!

Boards Of Canada – Reach For The Dead [Electronica/IDM] (Tim Graf)

Boards Of Canada are a group of Canadian (who guessed it?) musicians who, besides recording tracks, also do live performances with their synths, drum machines, and other equipment. So it’s no surprise that „Reach For The Dead“ is a very retro/analog sounding track, with a somehow psychedelic feeling to it.

Tim Engelhard, Bog – No More Words [Techno] (Samir Ibrahim)

A „Secret Weapon“ for a DJ, is an unknown track, which guarantees to get the crowd going at any time during the set. „No More Words“ is exactly such a track, why it was featured in the „Secret Weapons“ series by famous techno label Innervisions. Even though the piece doesn’t offer much on the melodic side, it’s definitely a banger!

Oh Wonder – Ultralife [Indie Pop] (Nicola Holenstein)

After releasing their first album in 2015, Oh Wonder are ready to take over the world. Their new song „Ultralife“, which is the first single of their upcoming album, sets the mood for the coming months. Earning 450k+ views in less than a week, you can expect to hear this a lot this summer!

FIL BO RIVA – Franzis [Indie-Rock] (Mara Deuschle)

Classic love story: Boy loves girl, but girl doesn’t love boy. This song can easily join „Ultralife“ in the category summer songs. FIL BO RIVA’s next concert in Zurich is already sold out, but he’ll playing at the Gurten Festival this summer as well (Check)!

Matt Corby  – Sooth Lady Wine [Singer/Songwriter] (Alex Zreikat)

For his album, Matt Corby locked himself in for 6 months. There he learned to play the instruments heard from scratch. We think the outcome can be described as amazing! The song „Sooth Lady Wine“   reminds of the psychedelic sound from the 60’s and 70’s, but still, has it’s unique sound.
